FAMILY FUN MOUNTAIN BIKE DAY

On Saturday 16 July 80 riders participated in the first family fun mountain biking day at the Wild Fig Country Estate outside White River. This wildlife estate boasts extensive trails through the beautiful bush environment and the event, organised by local event organisers Event Horizon, aimed at attracting mountain bike enthusiast to experience the unique setting, spectacular views and, of course, the challenging trails.
Participants included both young and old with the youngest being 4 years and oldest 74 years. Cycle Lab, opening their new store in Nelspruit in August, sponsored vouchers for the winners and other sponsors included Loerie Water, H2O and Fine & Country estate agency. Local mountain biker, Lammert Oosthuizen, also a resident of the estate, was responsible for the design of the 3 routes and especially his 15 km "hard core" route was commented on as being more technically challenging than most other routes in the Lowveld area.
Despite the challenging ride and confusion for some riders over the routes for the 4km, 8km and 15km respectively, the feedback has been extremely positive and requests have been made about the estate allowing riders to practice on the estate, a clear indication of the quality of the route and the beautiful environment.
